16 - Makaio Huizar

Released March 24, 2024

“16” was definitely a break out song for the young and newly 17 year old. His songwriting took a massive notch up and got some heads turning to him. When Makaio was 16 he quietly struggled. He disappeared and hid in a dark room for almost a year. This song is about what had happened. Makaio explains “I used to look in the mirror and just stare, and start to cry. I knew I wasn’t the skinniest or I wasn’t a model, but I wanted to feel loved and I felt unlovable. It was terrible, I would normally sit in the shower and hear the running water to hopefully drown out my thoughts. I eventually stopped eating. Usually I would go a week without eating then eat one thing. I would get proud of myself when I didn’t eat for the whole day. I would weigh myself daily at least 3 times. And if I gained a pound I would cry and somehow notice it in my stomach. It was a really dark place and it eventually led to some dark thoughts as well. Thankfully I met someone during this time that ultimately made me feel lovable and cured me”. The song is one of Makaio’s most streamed and relatable. It goes very deep into his feelings and he did not hold back on being vulnerable. When Makaio was getting ready to release it he knew he wanted the song not just do well, but have a lasting impact, he came up with the idea to donate half the earnings to the Mental Health of America Foundation and also raised money gathering almost $150 total. Mental health continues to be the young stars most important topic and encourages more conversations and less judgement.

what am i waiting for? - Makaio Huizar

This song was about Makaio’s break up with a boy he loved for over a year. The song covers unhealthy coping mechanisms, and waiting for someone to come back when they may never come back. The songwriting is very vulnerable and honest and Makaio’s vocal tone is a sad and heartbroken one. The song was received really well with critics before release. And for the first time ever, Makaio had gotten radio placements in a few countries in Europe and in a few cities in the US. He also had press and article support about the release for the first time in his career. The song definitely placed him as a “rising artist” within his genre, according to broken8records. Within this fog, he pulls out pictures, memories, and bottles to resemble the drinking mentioned in the song. Towards the end of the song Makaio gets up from this vulnerable position he was in and he sings “what am I waiting for?” while dropping the necklace into the fog and leaving, a true symbol of moving forward after a break up. The video was submitted to the 2025 Hollywood Music Video Awards for “Best Low Budget Music Video”.

Town - Makaio Huizar

Released November 1, 2024

A few months after a really successful song, Makaio came back with “Town”. “Town” is by far one of the best songs by Makaio lyrically and sonically. The songwriting is almost like a journal all the feelings thoughts insecurities, worries, fears all compacted into one. There’s no structure in this song, but that’s almost what gives the song it’s structure. It’s a very unique style of a structure but Makaio executed it well and beautifully. The song has a very slow build, but the lyrical content is what keeps listeners interested to see what will be said next. The song is undoubtedly one of the most relatable that the young star has written. “Town” is truly a testament to Makaio’s growth as a singer, a songwriter and producer. “Town” is Makaio’s most highly rated song according to critics and for the first time ever Makaio received radio support throughout various cities in the US, Canada, Brazil, the UK France, Italy, and Spain. Father - Makaio Huizar

Released March 7th, 2025

The first song of 2025 for Makaio is a special one to say the least. “Father” is an experimental piece from Makaio. It steps out his “piano comfort zone”. He steps out of his bedroom Pop genre and enters the Folk Pop genre for the first time. Father is described by Makaio as “something I wish I could tell my dad myself, but I can’t, so I wrote the song, I write how I feel obviously, but I think for the first time ever I think I really mean every word I say”. “Father” has a strong structure and a killer ending. The energetic burst of emotion and energy in the bridge ends the song very beautifully. The high note at the end is one that will ring well after the song ends. Within 3 minutes Makaio paints a heartbreaking story of a son wanting a better relationship with his father. Makaio is known for his ethereal and soft vocals, and he brings that to an acoustic guitar making a beautiful sound. Excitement for the release is at an all time high for the young star. “Town” by Makaio has been by far his most well received song and brought Makaio a lot of new support. “Father” is the perfect follow up to “Town”, it continues his painful yet beautiful honest lyricism, his beautiful harmonies and soft ethereal vocals, but in a new genre. In February Makaio Huizar reached 20,000 monthly listeners on Spotify for the first time. This led to Makaio breaking his personal record and “Father” debuted on Spotify with 12,800 streams in the first week.

Stars - Makaio Huizar

Released May 16th

Following “Father” Makaio began teasing his newest demo. He posted a short clip on his Instagram story that instantly clicked with many. He posted the clip onto TikTok, Instagram reels, and YouTube and the support for the demo came in. Makaio knew he possibly had a song that could catapult his career. He finished the writing process and began recording what would become his latest single “Stars”. In an interview with Broken8Records he said “I remember being up very late with a piano and just free-styling. I started with the lyrics “I wanna be a star, wanna be star, and make it far”. And that’s when I knew I could work with it. That night I was going to rough moments of doubting myself and not feeling enough to be an artist, but wanting to be one so bad. So those late-night feelings and worries are what influenced me to go to the piano and start free-styling until I found something or felt better.” The song is about the crave to be an artist to perform in arenas and to make something of yourself. In the same interview Huizar stated “A message I want to share from my song ‘Stars’ is mainly for people who feel stuck in their lives, about what to do with their career. Especially young, thriving artists trying to put their name out there. I encourage everyone to keep going and fight for what they want and believe in, and someday the stars will align for you.” And the song definitely reasonated with listeners. The song had gained 5,000 streams in its first week on Spotify alone. And today it sits at nearly 20,000 becoming his 3rd most streamed song EVER. “I think this song will be my biggest ever, I think it’ll do better than ‘Town’ and ‘What Am I Waiting For?’” Makaio said. Even though it didn’t quite reach the numbers he anticipated Makaio said “I know someone needed to hear the song, I don’t care if it was my most successful song I’m just glad it found the people that needed it and it’s all that matters to me. I make my music for people who need it”. Stars today remains a favorite in the singers fan base “the depressed divas”.

Merry Xmas I Guess - Makaio Huizar

Released December 19th 2025

“Merry Xmas I Guess” is one of Makaio Huizar’s most vulnerable releases to date — a melancholic pop and bedroom pop Christmas track that captures the emotional weight of a year that felt longer than it should have. Blending soft, reverb-soaked vocals with a bittersweet winter atmosphere, the song reflects on how love, loss, and growing up can quietly collide during the holidays.

The first half of the track lingers on falling in and out of love — the tender questions, the distance between “I’ll be here / You’ll be there,” and the quiet hope that warmth might still reach someone standing in the cold. As the song unfolds, it shifts toward something deeper: grief, uncertainty, and the quiet ache that Christmas can magnify. Snow becomes a metaphor for impermanence — beautiful while it lasts, but destined to melt.

Inspired by the emotional transparency of artists like Conan Gray, Makaio leans into subtle production and intimate storytelling, creating a song that feels like a late-night confession by the glow of a Christmas tree. “Merry Xmas I Guess” reminds listeners that even in the loneliest seasons, they’re not the only ones feeling it.
